Coach Profile: Jacinta Doyle

Sutherland Shire coach, Jacinta Doyle is a coach on the rise. In this profile, she maps out her 10-year pathway in coaching, the world class mentors that have influenced her and for her the challenging of continuing to learn about her craft, solving ‘puzzles’ and noting that “every athlete is different and therefore needs to be coached and programmed in a particular way.”

The 2020 Athletics NSW Officials of the year are Dave Higgins and Josephine Ng. There are few more important to our sport than our officials and we recognise and congratulate Dave, Josephine and the many officials who keep our sport going.

Athletics NSW Appoints New Directors

2020 Club Award winners - Margaret Beardslee and UTS Norths

Mingara club’s Margaret Beardslee and UTS Norths have won the top Athletics NSW club awards for 2020. The sport in NSW is fortunate to have many hard-working club administrators. Often they go unrecognised as they burn the midnight candle organising everything from finances to registrations, uniforms, awards, publicity competitions and relay teams.

Vale: Jim Bailey – 1956 Olympian

During the ‘50s and ‘60s Australia produced a procession of the world class milers, including John Landy, Merv Lincoln, Herb Elliott and Albie Thomas. A lesser known was 1956 Olympian Jim Bailey (STG) who passed away aged 90 last week (March 31) in Bellingham in Washington State.

Athlete Pathway: World Juniors or not

Leading NSW and Australian teenager athletes are in limbo, unsure if the World Athletics U20 Championships will he held this year. COVID-19 Update - Impacts on small group coaching/training

Overnight, the Federal Government announced further restrictions and measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Small group training is now not permitted, with outdoor exercise restricted to two people and in compliance with social distancing advice.

COVID-19 Update - Further impact on Athletics NSW 2020 winter calendar

Please find following further updates regarding the impact of COVID-19 on the 2020 ANSW | RunNSW calendar and advice for Club events and competitions: ANSW Winter Calendar The NSW Government has released “Public Heath (COVID-19 Public Events) Order 2020” which prohibits the staging of outdoor events which will or is likely to have 500 people or more in attendance. This order is in place until at least 14th June 2020 (Please note we will provide updates and/or changes as communicated).

A message from the Chair of Athletics NSW

Good afternoon all, I had hoped that my first message to the NSW athletics community as Chair would come in more positive circumstances, having just come off the back of the NSW Championships and looking forward with anticipation to the Australian Track and Field Championships in Sydney and the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Teenagers dominate 123rd NSW Open Championships

The 123rd NSW Championships, held over the weekend at Homebush, were dominated by teenagers with 11 juniors winning titles. The competition produced two new NSW World U20 Championships qualifiers - triple jumper Desleigh Owusu and javelin thrower Lianna Davidson, while there were two attempts at Tokyo Olympic Games qualification by Nicola McDermott in the high jump and South Korean Minsub Jin in the pole vault.
