The sun shone, as did the performances of the hurdles and metric milers on day two of the 2022 NSW All Schools Athletics Championships being held at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush.
Standing behind our over 2000 competing athletes at the NSW All Schools this weekend, are hundreds of coaches. They play an integral role in the enjoyment and success of the athletes. They are the people who are track side on those wet winter nights providing encouragement and support to our athletes.
Over the last few years the NSW All Schools Athletics Championships has unearthed dozens on new emerging talent. Many of them are still youngest enough to compete this weekend at the NSW All Schools.
Athletics NSW is excited to announce that the Barden Park Athletics Centre, Dubbo will host 2023 NSW Country Championships from Friday 20th January to Sunday 22nd January, 2023.
At next weekend’s 2022 NSW All Schools Athletics Championships eight NSW athletes who have already represented Australia will compete. Two Commonwealth Games team members and six recent World U20 Championships representatives will be back at the NSW Schools, where their international journeys started. They will be joined by dozens of athletes who in recent years have stamped themselves as stars of the future.
The Para-Athletics events at next week’s 2022 NSW All Schools Athletics Championships will feature two Birmingham Commonwealth Games representatives along with a number of other athletes on the pathway to wearing the green and gold at the Paris Paralympics.
Sydney Pacific’s Lizzy McMillen continued her rise with an outstanding win in the Australian Winter Walking Championships in Melbourne on Sunday. She led a trio of NSW athletes crowned national champions including Sienna Pitcher and Sophie Polkinghorne.
Overcoming occasional rain showers, Ed Goddard recorded a record run to easily win the men’s 2022 Sydney Half Marathon conducted today around Homebush. In the women’s race, Marnie Ponton registered the fastest winning time for 15 years.
With Australia hosting the World Cross Country Championships next year, an event which includes an under-20 event, the junior events at the National Cross Country had more relevance than ever.
NSW’s strong distance running depth was on display at the 82nd Australian XC Championships at Oakbank Racing Club on the outskirts of Adelaide on Saturday. Ed Goddard and Leanne Pompeani both finished on the podium, while the NSW women dominated with four in the top-6 resulting in a convincing win in the women’s team title.
Amongst the many junior events, one of the feature races for NSW supporters at the Australian Cross Country Championships this weekend in Adelaide, will be the women’s under-20 6km event.
Two of the best fields for years will assemble in Adelaide on Saturday to battle for the open men’s and women’s 10km Cross Country Championships of Australia. NSW athletes are well in the mix and expected to finish on the podium in both races.
With the trail and ultra-running scene being one of the fastest areas of growth in our sport, and Athletics Australia has introduced a Level 3 Coaching Accreditation.
