As the Melbourne Track Classic returned to the Coles Summer Super Series last evening, Jessica Hull led a dominant performance by NSW athletes including John Gikas, Liz Clay, Lauren Reid and Alex Hulley.

Browning tantalisingly close to Tokyo standard with 10.06w

The wait for the first major track meet of the Olympic year was over last night with the Jandakot Airport Track Classic held in Perth. The sprinters, particularly Rohan Browning, took advantage of the expected good conditions.

Gunn fires at Country Championships

Nearly 500 athletes from across the state, travelled to Dubbo for the 75th NSW Country Championships held over the last three days. With the fires across much of country NSW in past weeks, just getting to the start line was an achievement for some.

Tokyo 2020 in focus for athletes at 75th NSW Country Championships in Dubbo

The line-up of elite country-based athletes competing at this weekâ€™s 75th NSW Country Championships, is headed by Newcastle Paralympian Erin Cleaver and Tokyo Olympic hopeful Tyler Gunn. The three-day meet will be held this Friday to Sunday at Barden Park, Dubbo with the assistance of the Dubbo Athletics Club and the Dubbo Regional Council.

NSW sprint, distance and race walk State championships decided

On the second weekend in January, NSW athletes chased competition in Wollongong, Canberra and on the Central Coast, including NSW Championships in the 60m, mile and 10,000m track walk.

Rubie's return a boost for the 4x400m relay

As we near to start of 2020 our sporting focus will naturally turn towards the Tokyo Olympics and one key athlete for Australia, who has been missing in 2019, Annelise Rubie-Renshaw is making her return after a major toe injury early in the year. She will be a welcome return to the 4x400m squad which continues to grow in depth following her pioneering work in the event in 2015.

Coach Profile: Julie Charlton

Rushing past in her wheelchair at the Combined High School Championships was Julie Charlton. She stopped briefly to explained: â€œIâ€™m trying to catch up with the two athletes I just watched competing in the shot putâ€. She was on a mission to make contact and potentially recruit a couple of new para athletes. It summed up Julieâ€™s commitment to introducing the sport to more athletes.

A Christmas message from the Chair of Athletics NSW

What a wonderful time of year it is, a time when all of us reflect on what has occurred during the year both personally and professionally and also look towards the New Year. 2019 has been a significant year for the continued development of our sport. The changes that have occurred as a result of some brave decisions by both the board of directors of Athletics New South Wales and also our staff have continued to lead us through somewhat uncharted waters.

Dead heat in menâ€™s Australian Mile Championship

The second rejuvenation of the Australian mile championship continued the eventâ€™s growth and it more than lived up to pre-race expectations with a dead heat in the menâ€™s mile championship â€“ the first at the menâ€™s national championships for 111 years.

Statement regarding Hunter Track Classic 2020

The Hunter Track Classic was originally an Athletics Australia National Series Meet in 2001 and 2002. In 2012 Athletics NSW rejuvenated the Hunter Track Classic which on occasions was a stop on the National Series.

Coach Profile: Warren Williams

A significantly growing trend in 2019 has been the increase in athletes participating in Athletics NSW recreational runs, primarily in winter, but also on the track. Coaching squads, like Warren Williamsâ€™ â€˜The Run Squadâ€™ have been key contributors to this increase in participation numbers. At the 2019 Athletics NSW Awards, Williams was named the Recreational Running Coach of the Year.

Close battles highlight NSW Club Championships

Thrilling finishes highlighted a very successful 2019/20 season NSW Club Championships with 120 teams battling to team supremacy in the 14 divisions. Most successful were UTS Norths in the juniors, Sydney University in the opens and UTS Norths and Mingara sharing the honours in the masters.
