Run Crew double at NSW 3000m titles

Run Crew’s Aynslee Van Graan clocked 9:07.89 – the sixth fastest time in the history of the event, to take the 39th NSW women’s 3000m Championship. Visiting Canberran Leanne Pompeani was first across the line in 9:06.85. The men’s race was also a battle with a visiting athlete, as Run Crew’s Kieren Tall out sprinted Victorian Craig Huffer on the last lap to take the 18th NSW men’s 3000m title in a time of 8:05.61.

Athletics NSW Statement on Shoe Compliance

Following the update to World Athletics Technical Rule 5 and in line with Athletics Australia’s position on shoe compliance, Athletics NSW will implement the following rules for all track events 800m and above, operating at AA permit status.

Seven NSW Volunteers honoured in Athletics Australia Awards

At last week’s Athletics Australia Annual General Meeting, seven outstanding NSW volunteers were recognised for their extraordinary volunteer service to sport in NSW and Australia. 2021 NSW All Schools set to be another record Championships

The 2020 NSW All Schools Championships were extraordinary. An incredible 29 meet records were set during the four-day championships held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. The 2021 Championships, on December 9 to 12, are expected to match these halcyon levels with one of the finest arrays of juniors emerging in NSW.

NSW’s great Dani Stevens retires

NSW’s finest athlete of the last decade, Dani Stevens (nee Samuels) has retired after an illustrious 18-year international career. The 2009 World discus champion is alongside Jana Pittman as the best NSW athletes in over 50 years.

NSW Country Championships Coming To Maitland

The 2022 NSW Country Championships will be held at the Maitland Regional Athletics Centre for the first time in the event's history. Three days of our best display of regional athletics all season will be made possible by stakeholders like the Maitland City Council, and will inspire hundreds of athletes of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Nancy Lloyd Vale

It is with great sadness Athletics NSW informs the athletics community of the passing of a tireless worker for the sport, Nancy Lloyd, 67. Very passionate about giving to the sport, Nancy was an Athletics NSW technical official and life member with UTS Norths club.

Official of the Year: Murray Gaudin

David Morrow and Murray Gaudin were bestowed the honour of joint 2021 Athletics NSW officials of the year. Regulars at our competitions, Morrow and Gaudin are key member of the strong Athletics NSW volunteer officials work force.

Vincent Donnadieu’s Helping Hand

Behind all athletes there is a support team, but for visually impaired athletes an additional key crew member is the guide. Vincent Donnadieu, guide to Tokyo Paralympic marathon medallist Jaryd Clifford, provided an insight into their role, along with the trust and bond between the athlete and the guide.

Athletics NSW Administrator of the Year: Iris Good

The Athletics NSW Administrator of the Year award is an opportunity to recognise one of these hard working volunteers annually. For the 2020/21 season Athletics East club’s Iris Good is recognised for nearly 30 years volunteer service.

Athletics NSW Club Development Award winner: Athletics Wollongong

Formed over 60 years ago Athletics Wollongong club is one of the strongest clubs in country NSW. Over the last couple of years there has been a noticeable rise in performance from their athletes and their media presence. Like so many clubs they also have a strong band of volunteers supporting the athletes.

2020/21 Club Coach of the Year: Brett Mathison - Westfields

Last month Brett Mathison was named Athletics NSW’s 2020/21 club coach of the year. Involved in the Westfields Sports High club program, Mathison plays that key role of taking athletes from across event groups and from varying levels.

Paralympic Games close in Tokyo

The Tokyo Paralympics concluded on Sunday with the marathons around the Paralympic city. The final two NSW athletes to compete were discus thrower Guy Henly and seven-time Paralympian Christie Dawes.
