Treloar Shield Final: Titles for Sydney Uni, UTS Norths, Manly, Hills and Bankstown
Five clubs shared in the spoils at the final of the 2024/25 Treloar Shield held yesterday at Homebush. Sydney University defended the prestigious open title. Manly Warringah juniors captured the U13 and U15 titles, the U18s went to Bankstown, while UTS Norths were victorious in the two masters divisions – 35-49 years and 50+ years.
12's and Under – Manly Warringah
Ahead of the finals Manly Warringah dominated with three wins in the rounds, but would score very low in two others, eventually placing second to Ryde in the premiership rounds.
In the final Manly Warringah dominated winning 12 of the 17 events. Two stars for Manly were Lewis McNaughton who won the high jump by 15cm with a jump of 1.55m, while in the 1500m Josephine Han defeated all the girls and boys to win in a time of 5:00.03.

13's-14's (U15) – Manly Warringah
In the six preliminary rounds three clubs claimed weekly wins – Manly Warringah, Cherrybrook and Ryde. The final was a terrific battle between Manly and Ryde. But in the end Manly Warringah’s 11 event wins were too much for Ryde with just 16 points the difference.
Sprinter Jake Wood was terrific for Manly with wins in the 100m and 400m - where he recorded an impressive 55.72. National champion Isaac Robinson (Manly) was brilliant in the 1500m clocking 4:34.33. Manly twins Louisa and Sarah Mehta went 1-2 in the 100m. For Ryde, Jack Spencer scored everywhere including the sprints, relays and shot. Kaleb King (Ryde) was also terrific in the high jump with 1.65m. One of the best marks was produced by Amy Campbell, of Hornsby, throwing 29.83m in the javelin.

15's-17's (U18) - Bankstown
In the six preliminary rounds, the wins were shared between UTS Norths, Cherrybrook and Bankstown. Bankstown actually won two rounds and were second in another, but missed automatic selection for the final. Offered a roll down spot for the final, they along with UTS Norths and Cherrybrook waged a superb battle, where in the end just 20 points separate the three clubs as Bankstown claimed the honours.
Bankstown took seven event wins, led by an Ollie Facer master class. After he won the 100m in a slick time of 10.76 and led home two relay teams, he claimed the high jump and long jump events. In the womens Bankstown’s heptathlete star Piper Todd scored well with podium finishes in the long jump, javelin and high jump.

Hornsby shaded UTS Norths in the six premiership rounds three-to-one-weekly wins. In the final it was a thrilling 3-way battle between those two teams plus Balmain.
UTS Norths’ World Masters hurdles champion, Ryan Dowling, led the way for his club with podium finishes in the shot put, long jump, high jump and 100m, along with double relay duty. Nicki Drinkwater was just as outstanding for the UTS Norths women with wins in the throws, 2x100m relay and a second in the 100m and high jump..

Open – Sydney University
In the preliminary rounds, UTS Norths shaded Sydney University with three to two weekly wins. Since the Treloar Shield was introduced, UTS Norths have dominated with seven wins, but last year Sydney University claimed their first win and in 2024/25 have comfortably defended their title. The bright spot for UTS Norths is they narrowed the margin this year.
There was some extortionary performances in the men’s high jump. World Junior championships finalist Mitchell Hayward (Sydney Uni) found himself in third place with a clearance of 2.05m, while 16-year-old Cadel Holmes cleared 2.10m the number 5 performance in the world in 2024 for his age. His next target will undoubtedly be the 2026 World Juniors in Eugene. But the win was claimed by 24-year-old Zachary Hayward with a 4cm PB height of 2.15m. It broke his previous best which dates back to 2019 when he was a teenager. Both Zachary and Cadel compiled clean sheet until their height where they were eliminated.
