Athletics NSW Welcomes the Establishment of the inaugural Para Advisory Committee

Athletics NSW (ANSW) is furthering its commitment to enhancing inclusivity, representation, and development in Para-Athletics through the establishment of a Para Advisory Committee.

Comprising nine members who bring a wealth of experience and passion the committee will facilitate collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the growth of para-athletics programs and initiatives in NSW.

Chaired by the ANSW Para-Liaison Coordinator, Matt Rawlings, the Advisory Committee includes a compliant mix of Technical Officials, Parents, Coaches and Athletes, Kim Owens, Julie Charlton, Kerry West, Heather Barry, Cathie Sherrington, Richard Keith, Troy Jackson, Timothy Earl, and Barry Pecar.

“I believe that we as a sport and community can actively do more to support the development of para-athletes and increase the experience and opportunities of those athletes,” Para-Advisory Committee Member Timothy Earl said.

“Inclusion and Diversity are important to me from the local grassroots level through to major competitions with a long-term goal to make a positive contribution to this area of our sport. Be an ear and voice, especially for our current and next generation of regional athletes.”

Newly appointed Committee member and seated throwing coach Julie Charlton shared “I have been a member of the athletics community since I was 8 years old. I have faced so many different challenges in order to keep para-athletics alive in NSW, I want to be a voice for para-athletes to be happy and thriving in their chosen sport.”

The establishment of the Para Advisory Committee, in conjunction with the appointment of Matt Rawlings as Para-Liaison Coordinator in September, reinforces ANSW's commitment to enhancing para-athletics programs and initiatives.

With the collective wealth of knowledge and experience that these committee members bring, ANSW believes they will make a positive impact on para-athletics in NSW.

Furthering their support to Para-Athletics, ANSW's Health and Wellbeing Partner, Maple Services, is on the lookout for four Ambassadors who are passionate about athletics, wellbeing, and inclusiveness to be the face of the partnership. If you are interested submit your entry here.
