Teenager McMillen smashes NSW record in Canberra at World Athletics Race Walking Tour event

The rise of 18-year-old Sydney race walker Lizzy McMillen continued in Canberra today with a stunning 10,000m walk at the World Athletics Race Walking Tour race, titled Supernova #1.

In an international field, Lizzy McMillen (SYP) was the first junior to finish, placing an outstanding eighth overall. She wrote herself into the record books with her superb time of 47:27.20. It was an 89 seconds personal best, broke the NSW Under-20 record and elevated her to the fifth fastest junior in Australian history.

Another teenager Allanah Pitcher (MIN) was also in terrific form, clocking an 87 seconds PB time of 47:49.94. Allanah was 13th in the senior race. NSW open 10,000m walk champion, Hannah Mison clipped three seconds from her PB clocking 48:55.84 to place 15th.

In the men’s race Dylan Richardson (MIN), recorded his third 10,000m walk PB in nine months for a total 80 second improvement. He stopped the clock at 42:52.74 to place ninth overall.

A special mention to the NSW technical officials who travelled all the way to Canberra for the two-hour meet: Leslie Allan, Michael Halmy, Susan Newton, Ellen Coker, Dennis Coker, Georgia Hughes, Jodie Sundstrom, Kirsten Crocker and Heather Mitchell.
