A margin of 0.005 seconds or 5 milliseconds was the different in Nick Hough progressing to the semi-finals of the 110m hurdles, while for the second consecutive world championships, Morgan McDonald has missed the 5000m final by less than half a second in a race lasting over 13 minutes. While in the women’s events Bendere Oboya and Paige Campbell have been outstanding.

Winkcup streaks onto team for World Championships

After missing selection in the Australian team for the World University Games in the idyllic city of Naples, steeplechaser Georgia Winkcup shifted her focus for the European summer. She would race in June at the Oceania Championships in Townsville, then head to Europe; not to compete, but for a holiday and Contiki tour. However, all that changed in less than 10 minutes on 27 June – after improving her PB by 39 sec during three races, she is now travelling to Doha for the World Athletics Champs.
