Stephanie Schweitzer and Talaya Blacksmith win Global Games medals
NSW athletes have returned from a successful campaign at the Virtus Global Games held in Vichy in France this month. Stephanie Schweitzer and Talaya Blacksmith were the stars for NSW with seven medals.
NSW athletes dominated the National athletics team with 11 competing. At the Games, 11 sports were conducted. The Global Games is the most important international competition for high-level athletes with mental or psychological disabilities.
The NSW contingent was spearheaded by team veteran Stephanie Schweitzer. The 30-year-old, who made her international debut in 2007 at the INAS-FID World Championships, won four medals, including gold in the 400m hurdles. She also finished on the podium in the gruelling heptathlon and two relay events.
Talaya Blacksmith also brough home a bag of medals from her enormous program which included competing on 11 occasions in all rounds. She won three bronze medals in the relay events.
