ANSW Official Statement – Hunter Track Classic

The Hunter Track Classic was originally an Athletics Australia National Series Meet in 2001 and 2002. In 2012 Athletics NSW rejuvenated the Hunter Track Classic which on occasions was a stop on the National Series.

Due to the challenge in attracting high performance athletes to Newcastle during this period, the competition permit system changes, and financial considerations, the Board of Athletics NSW supported by ANSWs CEO and Competition Team, has removed the Hunter Track Classic from our 2019/2020 Summer Track and Field calendar which was originally scheduled for Saturday 1st February.

Athletics NSW is proud of the history of the Hunter Track Classic and will now focus on the delivery of the remainder of the 2019/2020 track and field season. An alternative all comers style competition will be delivered in the Sydney metro area on the 1st February, details to follow.

Athletics NSW supports the Athletics Australia 2020 tour structure which has Track Classics scheduled as follows:

  • Jandakot Airport Track Classic (Perth) - 1 Feb
  • Melbourne Track Classic – 6 Feb
  • Canberra Track Classic – 13 Feb
  • Sydney Track Classic – 22 Feb
  • Qld Track Classic – 20 March
