NSW Road Relays return

After two years missed due to COVID, the NSW Road Relay Championships made a triumphant return in 2022 and to their recent home, Newcastle University, Ourimbah Campus on the Central Coast. There were exciting wins for Randwick Botany and UTS Norths.

WOMEN

In an exciting women’s race less than 20 seconds separated the medal winning teams after the hour long women’s open 4x4km Road Relay Championship.

Randwick Botany’s win was set up by a storming second leg, from new recruit Holly Campbell, who clocked the day’s fastest split of 12:55 minutes. Their 95 second lead was whittled down to just six second by the finish line by Newcastle Flyers, who were missing their big gun Jess Noble. Sydney University, likewise, stormed home, courtesy of the days second fastest leg from Jenny Blundell who ran 13:16.

MEN

The men’s 4 x 4km race, was not as close as the women’s, with UTS Norths dominating from the gun courtesy of Ed Goddard who ran the day’s fastest leg of 11:19. He and the improving Leo Paterson on the second leg, ensure UTS Norths were never in danger of being toppled. They finished in 47:22, 31 seconds ahead of Sydney University (47:53) and Randwick Botany in third with 48:54. Fastest for Sydney Uni on the days was Joe Burgess, while Randwick Botany was served will by two of the days quickest leg from teenager Bailey Habler (11:44) and Stefan Music (11:40).
