Nancy Lloyd Vale

It is with great sadness Athletics NSW informs the athletics community of the passing of a tireless worker for the sport, Nancy Lloyd, 67. Very passionate about giving to the sport, Nancy was an Athletics NSW technical official and life member with UTS Norths club.

An Athletics NSW official for nine years, Nancy was a regular at Northern Zone where after competing in the walk and distances events, she would officiate. She also ran at West Met XC where again she would assist as an official.

Her largest contribution to athletics was with her club UTS Norths. In addition to her work at Northern Zone, she was the Treasurer for about four years and was prolific with producing the weekly results. An unsung task she performed was after competition she would type up results in meet manager and post them to the UTS Norths website. A valuable service to the athletes. In recognition of her enormous contribution to the UTS Norths club, annually a trophy is awarded in her name: “Nancy Lloyd Trophy for the Distance Athlete of the Year”.

Nancy trained with about a dozen athletes in Alan Nolan’s squad at Rotary Field. A mother of three, she enjoyed trips to Tasmania to visit one of her daughters and see her grandchildren. A qualified accountant, Nancy was still working until recently, doing bookwork for a few companies. One of Nancy’s passions was sport and she was a member of the SCG.

Nancy was also a great traveller and adventurer. She ran many overseas marathons including Boston and The Great Wall of China. She climbed Mt Kilimanjaro and has completed the “Coast to Coast Walk” in England.

Training partner, Sue Rilen reflected about her close friend.

“Nancy was a very giving person, who just wanted to be involved in the sport that she was so passionate about.”

Nancy Lloyd passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning with her family around her.
