Key wins for Rubie-Renshaw and Quirk at first Oceania Invitational

The resumption of domestic track and field competition kicked off in Queensland yesterday with the first Oceania Invitational meet on the Gold Coast.

Rio Olympic semi-finalist, Anneliese Rubie-Renshaw comfortably won the 400m in a good time of 52.87 in the windy conditions, ahead of junior Ellie Beer with 53.35.

Campbelltown’s Monique Quirk ran one of her quickest 200m times with 23.49, although with slight wind assistance of 2.2m/s, as she chases enough ranking points to secure Olympic selection. Second was Gold Coast Commonwealth Games representative Larissa Pasternatsky with 23.64.

In the women’s 800m, NSW’s three juniors were all over third place getter Rio Olympian Morgan Mitchell. Matilda Ryan won with a strong home straight push in 2:07.93, from Jaylah Hancock-Cameron 2:08.30 with Nicola Hogg fourth in 2:10.11.

Some real gutsy running from Georgia Winkcup who was injury last season to place third in the 3000m steeplechase 9:57.22.

Another consistent javelin competition from Mackenzie Little with a throw of 59.98m for second place.

There were two terrific junior performances in the field. Tomysha Clark raised her PB in the women’s long jump with her fourth round effort of 6.29m. The mark moved her into the top-15 Australian juniors of all-time. While high jumper Erin Shaw won with a clearance of 1.83m.

Bouncing back from a fall in the 110m hurdles, Nick Andrews ran a quick 100m in 10.34. Alex Hulley claimed the hammer with a distance of 66.17m and strong prospect for Paralympic selection, Rosemary Little put 5.90m in the shot just short of her summer six metre throws.
