COVID-19 Update - Further impact on Athletics NSW 2020 winter calendar and Club events and competitions recommendations
Please find following further updates regarding the impact of COVID-19 on the 2020 ANSW | RunNSW calendar and advice for Club events and competitions:
ANSW Winter Calendar
The NSW Government has released “Public Heath (COVID-19 Public Events) Order 2020” which prohibits the staging of outdoor events which will or is likely to have 500 people or more in attendance. This order is in place until at least 14th June 2020 (Please note we will provide updates and/or changes as communicated).
As a result, we have made further changes to the ANSW 2020 winter calendar.
In addition to the postponement of the St George Classic and the Sydney 10. The Team Walks (due to be held at Chipping Norton on Sunday 17th May) and the XC Relays (due to be held at Miranda Park on Saturday 30th May) are also postponed.
ANSW Staff will remain in close contact with all host Clubs in regards to further developments for these competitions.
Updates will follow as new information is available.
Athletics NSW Club events and competitions
As per the above NSW Government “Public Heath (COVID-19 Public Events) Order 2020” all ANSW Clubs are prohibited from staging a competition or event which will or is likely to have 500 people or more in attendance until at least 14th June 2020.
In addition, following detailed discussions with Athletics Australia and all State Member Association CEOs, it is recommended that all ANSW clubs postpone all competitions and events until May 1, 2020. This includes local and state cross-country, track and field and road events.
With the current threat of COVID-19 impacting the health and welfare of Australians, we will continue to work with Athletics Australia and take advice and guidance from National and State health authorities and the NSW Government.
ANSW Club small group training
Regarding small group training - ANSW recommends that Clubs and coaches understand their very important role in helping reduce the transmission of COVID-19.
Athletes should not attend training if they:
-
Have travelled internationally or been exposed to a person with COVID-19 in the preceding 14 days: or,
-
Are at a high risk including the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
In addition:
-
All athletes are encouraged to practise the following social distancing measures
-
Minimise physical contact as much as is practicable, for example no shaking hands
-
When attending a training session, ensure 1.5 metres is kept between athletes
(“AHPPC COVID-19 Community Sport Guidelines”, 18th March 2020)
We thank you for your understanding and we continue to encourage compliance with NSW Health and Government advice and in particular the practice of social distancing and hygiene measures
