Athletics NSW Life Membership: Del Warrick

Last Saturday Athletics NSW awarded Life Membership to Technical Official Del Warrick. The unassuming start crew team member was presented with Athletics NSW’s highest award by Board Chair, Matthew Whitbread.

Del started his journey as a local/club official in the late 1990s. By 1999 he was a regular at State and National level. For the next 24 years he has become one of the back bones of the Athletics NSW start crew/check-in team – the face of the sport to many athletes.

Almost immediately he became involved, Del was recognized with appointments to the 2000 Olympics and Paralympics as a Sports Specific Volunteer.

Over the ensuring 24 years Del has been appointed to all the major Championships/Games in Australia and the region including the 2006 and 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2011 World Para Athletics Championships in New Zealand, and numerous Oceania Championships, Pacific Games, Mini Pacific Games, Australian Youth Olympic Festivals, World Masters Games and INAS World Championships.

A number of these Games and Championships have been held in the Pacific region, which he has self-funded too, and taken the opportunity to help develop the local officials in the region.

Thank you Del for your incredible service to the sport and the positive impact you have made for tens of thousands of athletes that have passed through athletics while you have been a valued technical official.
