Athletics NSW Junior Development Program is coming to Tamworth
Published Thu 19 Sep 2024
Thanks to an exciting partnership with Rural Fit, the Athletics NSW Junior Development Program is now available in Tamworth, bringing long term athletic development to the region. The program begins with the Junior Athletic Movement Assessment, a comprehensive evaluation designed to assess an athlete's growth, maturation, and competency in key movement patterns that are foundational to all sports. This initial assessment helps identify areas for improvement and ensures that each athlete’s program is tailored to their unique needs.
Originally launched at the Centre of Excellence at Sydney Olympic Park, the Junior Development Program is renowned for its focus on building strong foundations in gym based movement patterns, functional movement skills as well as speed, strength, and power. These core attributes are essential for developing well-rounded, adaptable athletes who can excel across multiple disciplines. By prioritising movement efficiency and injury prevention, the program not only enhances performance but also ensures a longer, healthier athletic career. Reducing the risk of growth-related injuries is a central focus, helping young athletes thrive during their critical developmental years.
Following the assessment, athletes in Tamworth will train at Rural Fit alongside peers at similar stages of development. The program offers individualised training plans based on each athlete's current growth and movement capabilities. Guided by expert coaches from Athletics NSW and Rural Fit, athletes will benefit from a structured, supportive training environment designed to maximise their potential. This holistic approach nurtures both athletic performance and personal growth, keeping young athletes engaged, motivated, and physically prepared for the challenges ahead.
