Trail and Ultra Running Coaching Course Launched

The International Trail Running Association (ITRA) has 1.7 million runners registered from around the world, with women leading the way when it comes to participation. As a result of trail and ultra-running being one of the fastest areas of growth in our sport, Athletics Australia has introduced a Level 3 Coaching Accreditation.

Athletics NSW is proud to announce that we will be holding one of the first official courses, being run by Jordan Andersen, Anne-Marie Cook and Australian ultra-runner Kellie Emmerson. The course was run as pilot down in the ACT earlier this year.

Lyndal Maloney, Head Coach of Serotonin Running who attended the course said, ‘Coaching is a continual learning process. Athletics Australia have recognised the enormous growth of, and potential in, the sport of trail and ultramarathon running. As part of their coaching framework they have developed a Level 3 Performance Development Coach pathway for trail and ultra nerds like myself. What a fabulous course, delivered by some talented educators and athletes. And I got to hang with a bunch of legends for the weekend too. I'm looking forward to applying and further developing my coaching skills to this next level’.

With the Blue Mountains currently hosting the sell-out Ultra Trail Australia event each year, and Athletics Australia launching their selection policy for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships 2022, being held during November in Thailand. Trail and Ultra running are fast becoming the most popular form of running, and new challenges for established runners.

The course is open to those who are already a Level 2 and are looking to progress to their next coaching level and to those who already have their Level 3 core coaching accreditation.
