Athletes set to re-write the records at ACPE NSW All Schools Championships

Held 10 weeks later than usual in 2020 due to the turmoil of COVID, the ACPE NSW All Schools Championships will finally be held on December 3-6 at Homebush. The lateness of the championships means athletes will be older in each age, providing an opportunity to re-write the record books. In addition, with less competitions during the year, athletes are fresher and ready to set personal bests.

An excellent total of 1700 of NSW’s best teenage athletes have entered the competition. They originate from every corner of the State - as far north as Tweed Heads, south to Albury and west to Hay.

Since the initial championship in 1936, the competition has unveiled a whole new array of emerging stars. In the ‘90s we were watching the emergence of future stars like Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, Jana Pittman, Matt Shirvington, Suzy Walsham, Jane Saville, Suzy Walsham and Eloise Wellings. In the ‘00s we saw athletes like Dani Stevens, Ryan Gregson, Fabrice Lapierre and James Nipperess emerge. Over the last few years, many more future internationals have competed at the NSW Schools, including Michelle Jenneke, Nick Hough, Ella Nelson, Brandon Starc, Steven Solomon, Angus Armstrong, Carley Thomas and Alex Hulley.

Similarly in 2020 we have a group who have already stamped themselves as stars of the future, most of whom have already won national titles, including Ashlyn Blackstock, Sarah Schiffmann, Charlie Jeffreson, Imogen Stewart, Damita Bethham, Delta Amidzovski, Milly Broughton, Rachel Bardney, Aleksandra Stoilova, Olivia Rose Inkster, Alexia Kalamvokis, Jessica Wardrobe, Montana Monk, Georgia Fichardt, Erin Shaw, Nakeisha Brimble, Jessica Laurance, Grace Hewitt, Jasmin Guthrie, Nicola Hogg, Allanah Pitcher, Renee Hardy, Teagan Neich, Katie Gunn, Alyssa Lowe, Emma Klasen, Matilda Ryan, Layla Sharp, Lainee Harrison, Tamsin Colley, Kailyn Joseph, Luca Gillard, George Wells, Nathan Stanmore, Adam Williams, Rashid Kabba, Raven Pyda, Jack Greaves, Darcy Holmes, Will Moir, Josh Atkinson, Theo Kidd, Liam Hinchcliffe, Tom Shannon, Aiden Princena-White, Jason Parmaxidis, Jonathan Reid, Leroy Reid, Mitchell Lightfoot, Jack McGinniskin, Ethan Princena-White, Ryan Marshall, Sebastian Ghisso, Edward Parker and James Tirado.

This week we will be looking for the next group to shine at these championships. Some on the ‘ones to watch list’ are Liam Gordon, Piper Simpson, Tammin Lampret, Le’ati Moefaauo, Ivy Boothroyd, Fleur Cooper, Sarah Baker, Sienna Pitcher, Grace Kruse, Tuliana Kabuyawa, Tayissa Buchanan, Raphaila Idris, Paige Campbell, Mia Toohey, Ada Rand, Jean Stump, Molly Goetz, Karina Bell, Sienna Bond, Shola Adeniran, Ava Honore, Emily Smith, Sophie Anderson, Andrea Marshall, Alexandra Harrison, Savannah Buss, Xavier Perry, Thomas Partland, Michael McLachlan, Joshua Cetinic, Billy Blair, Aidan Gee, Ryan Bonham, Angus Clues, Ben Stevens, Samuel Perkins, Pengfei Zhao, Bailey Habler, Luke Fisher, Tom March, Harrison Lucas, Liam Fairweather and Jackson Love.

There will also be some classic match races, like the girls 17 years 100m, 200m, long jump and hammer throw or the 16 years boys high jump and so many more.

The championships, to be conducted in a COVID safe way, will be held in two session each day over four days.
