2024 Chemist Warehouse Sydney Track Classic Venue Announcement

The 2024 Chemist Warehouse Sydney Track Classic is making its mark in the Eastern Suburbs, scheduled to be held at the iconic E.S. Marks Athletics Field on Saturday, 23 March 2024. Once known as the home of athletics in NSW, this event is the highest-level track and field meet to grace the Eastern Suburbs in over three decades.

The Sydney Track Classic promises to be an exciting showcase of athleticism, from people of all ages and abilities, along with top-tier athletes from Australia and around the world converging in the heart of the Eastern Suburbs to compete in various track and field disciplines.

Over the years, the Sydney Track Classic has earned a reputation as a launchpad for athletes seeking Olympic, Paralympic and world championship qualifications. This event offers a platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills, set records, and ignite the competitive spirit in track and field.

The Sydney Track Classic, held at E.S. Marks Athletics Field in the early ‘90s, saw the emergence of many of the Sydney 2000 stars. In 1993 there was the first clash of many between Melinda Gainsford and Cathy Freeman over 200m. They would both go on to make the Sydney Olympic 200m final. Some leading Australians during these years included Darren Clark, Maree Holland, Tim Forsyth, Tim Jackson, Shaun Creighton, Simon Doyle, Jane Flemming, Nicole Boegman, Debbie Sosimenko and racewalker Kerry Saxby who set a world record on the track.

Greater Sydney Parklands Chief Executive, Joshua French said it is an honour to host Australia’s premier track and field event at the revitalised E.S. Marks Athletics Field.
