2021 NSW All Schools set to be another record Championships

The 2020 NSW All Schools Championships were extraordinary. An incredible 29 meet records were set during the four-day championships held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. The 2021 Championships, on December 9 to 12, are expected to match these halcyon levels with one of the finest arrays of juniors emerging in NSW.

It was likely, in part, there were three reasons the 2020 Championships reached unpreceded levels. With the championships being held two months later than usual, athletes were two months older and stronger against records usually set in September/October. Athletes were also keen for competition after missing the entire school season. Thirdly athletes had not raced through July to October, so were fresher. For some events, technical events are an example, there has been a disadvantage of not being able to access facilities and equipment, however from October that has now been rectified as NSW opens up.

Off the back of the 2020 Championships some world class NSW juniors emerged, like Charlie Jeffreson, Dominic Panozzo, Emily Smith and Ethan Princena-White. They joined established junior stars Tamsin Colley, Caitlyn Ferrier, Delta Amidzovski and Imogen Stewart.

Dozens more stars flagged their credentials across the four days in 2020 including three flyers from Westfields Sports High Aleksandra Stoilova, Shola Adenira and Rashid Kabba. In the 100m Shola clocked 11.80 and Aleksandra a windy 11.81. We have to go back 40 years to the great Diane Holden to find quicker times. Rashid was everywhere, in the sprints, jumps and setting records in the hurdles.

Some others to record brilliant performances in 2020 were:

Sprinters - Grace Krause, Mali Lovell, Liam Gordon, Ruby Worrell, Dylan Hall, Jessica Laurance, Grace Hewitt, Damita Betham, Tuliana Kabuyawa, Emma Lee, Olivia Rose Inkster, Sebastian Ghisso, Pengfei Zhao, Summah Harrison, Sean Oikawa and Edward Parker.
