2024 FAQS
St George Classic (featuring NSW Dual Relay Championships)
Event Information
The St George Classic is the 1st event to the 2024 Winter Series, and it will feature the inaugural Dual Relay Championships.
Unlike many other relays, the dual relays will feature 2 x athletes, with athletes in the Under 18 and above age groups competing over two legs.
Over the past few seasons, ANSW has completed an extensive review of the winter season, including through the Winter Harriers (ANSW club representatives).
As part of this review, including with the St George Athletics Club, ANSW has revised the format of the St George Classic to harness the power of relays and create an easier to understand and consume product for the 2024 season opener.
As a result, ANSW will run a pilot of the Dual relays, a two-person relay format, which for 2024 will replace the Novice Championships.
ANSW welcomes feedback on this into continue to improve the offering going forward.
Two athletes will form a team. If athletes are from the same club they will be considered a Championship team and compete for the state Championship and winter point scores.
Athletes in the Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 age groups will compete in one leg each.
Teams competing in the Under 18, Under 20, open, and master’s will compete in two legs. Runner 1 will run leg 1 and 3 and Runner 2 will run Leg 2 & 4.
