ELIGIBILITY TO REPRESENT NSW
All athletes wishing to represent NSW at the 2022 Australian Athletics Championships must:

• Be a minimum of 12 years of age as at 31 December 2022
• Be a registered and financial member of Athletics NSW at the time of competition
• Compete in the NSW Junior Athletics Championships (25th - 27th February, 2022) 

**Athletes who live further than 200km from Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre or who have extenuating circumstances can apply to Athletics NSW for an exemption. 

If you did NOT compete at NSW Jnrs and/or NSW Opens Championships and you have not been granted an exemption please contact Matthew Joyce ASAP on matthew.joyce@nswathletics.org.au before completing your entry

QUALIFICATION TO THE TEAM

To qualify to compete for NSW in the Australian Athletics Championships, athletes must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:
Place First, Second or Third:

• NSW All Schools Athletics Championships (9th to 12th December 2021)**
• NSW Junior Athletics Championships (25th - 27th February, 2022) 

OR

Achieve the 2021/22 Athletics Australia National Entry Standard for the relevant age group and event. Entry Standards must be achieved at a National Permitted Event. NSW events that hold a National Permit include:

• NSW All Schools Athletics Championships
• NSW Junior Athletics Championships
• NSW Open Athletics Championships
• Australian All Schools Athletics Championships
• Any event on the ANSW Calendar with a permit status
• 2021 GPS or CAS Athletics Championship(s)

PLEASE NOTE: ATHLETES MUST COMPETE AT NSW JUNIORS CHAMPIONSHIPS (if you are a junior aged athlete) or OPENS NSW CHAMPIONSHIPS  (if you are an open aged athlete) IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE AUSTRALIAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS. 

**Due to the year change, athletes will compete 'up' in the next age division. I.e. If athletes qualified in the 15 years age group (U16), they will compete in the U17 age group at the Australian Junior Championships.

ENTRY PROCESSES 

Athletes may enter in multiple event age groups if an athlete has bettered the relevant entry standard. This rule is subject to the following criteria as set out under the following rules:
Provided an athlete has bettered the relevant entry standard for a higher age group than their own, the athlete may be entered in an individual event for such age group, subject to the following:

• Athletes may only enter events in a maximum of two age groups.
• No athlete may enter the same or similar events** within the U15 and U16 age groups.
• No athlete may enter the same or similar events** within the U16 and U17 age groups.
• No athlete may enter the same or similar events** within the U17 and U18 age groups.

• Para athletes may compete the same or similar events** in one under-age group only but also may enter the same or other events in Open

** Same or Similar event means 80/90/100/110m hurdles; 200/400m hurdles; 3000/5000metres and 1500/3000/5000m walk and each of the throwing events (regardless of change in weight of implements).

Athletes 12 or 13 years of age are not permitted to enter the Steeplechase event.

Team Levy and Entry fees

The NSW State team levy for this event in $105.00. This levy covers the following:

• Administration costs associated with this event
• State team management services throughout the championships to assist with athlete needs
• Unlimited access to team physiotherapy staff throughout the championships (including sports massage)
• Access to recovery options including ice bath and compression boots.

In addition to this team levy, there will be an Athletics Australia event entry fee of $35.00 per athlete, per event. This will automatically be added to your registration when you select your events.

*NB: If a Junior athlete has satisfied the Open qualifying performance(s) and wishes to compete in this category as well please register your events through this portal.
