June CEO Message

Welcome to the June CEO’s message.  The weather has now officially turned cold and the days are shorter, so I hope that you are still able to keep your involvement with athletics going through the winter.

In the high performance space there are still many athletes competing overseas chasing Olympic qualifiers.  We wish all of them the best of luck (and especially those from New South Wales).  In terms of the Australian Paralympic Team, selections in Athletics have not yet been finalised, however this week Kurt Fearnley was named as co-captain of the Australian Paralympic Team.  Huge congratulations to Kurt, it is difficult to think of a better ambassador!  In addition, it’s worth noting that we currently have four athletes who have posted ‘A’ qualifiers, these four should hopefully be looking good for the final team.  The athletes are Rosemary Little (Hills – 100m), Angela Ballard (Sydney Uni – 100m, 400m, 800m), Kurt Fearnley (Macquarie Hunter – 1500m, 5000m) and Guy Henly (Hills - discus).  We look forward to hopefully hearing these names, plus a few others, read out when the Paralympic team is finalised.  The Paralympics will be contested in Rio between September 7 and 18.
