Ian Dewhurst has not run a 400m hurdles personal best for nearly four years, but now a wiser and more mature athlete, he is set for an inspired season which we hope will incorporate success at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. His unfolding story this summer will validate his patience, sacrifice and growing professionalism over the last few years.

Bankstown club claim winter honours

For the seventh consecutive year, Bankstown club have claimed the Athletics NSW Winter Club Trophy. The award, which recognises the leading winter club across cross country and road running, was dominated by Bankstown. They placed either first or second in the nine categories leading six of them.

With Christmas almost upon us and summer definitely upon us, I would like to provide an update on last weekend’s ‘two track Treloar’, which is for me one of the true successes of 2017 for Athletics NSW.

I have spoken previously about a key strategy of ANSW being to raise the capabilities of our sport, in particular around the delivery of track and field competitions.  Having both tracks at SOPAC in operation at the same time ticked a number of boxes on that front:

Over the last seven-years, just one Aussie, Josh Clarke, has dipped under 10.20 in the 100m, but in less than perfect conditions, Rohan Browning (SYU) joined that club in Brisbane last evening.
