CEO Message - November 2016

Welcome, all, to the CEO's message for November.  We are now in the middle of the summer athletics program, so I hope that you’re in good form!

It was a pleasure to be out at Blacktown last weekend for arguably the best Club meet of every season, the ANSW Relay Championships.  We saw 660 teams entered and a stack of great performances, including some 18 records being broken. For a summary of some of the top performances please check the results here.

Leverett leaping ahead

Ahead of the Australian All Schools Championships, we feature one of NSW’s rising stars. Last summer we saw the emergence of Cherrybrook’s Maya Leverett in the jumps, winning her national age triple jump title and claiming silver in the long jump. Her sprinting has also improved and in this interview, she outlines a shift to include sprints as a priority.

Leading NSW athlete, coach and administrator, John Atterton, has passed away

Sad news with the passing overnight of John Atterton who had been battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Our thoughts are with his wife Nancy, and family including daughter Stacey, known throughout the athletics community.

State 3k champ Mitchell fitting in perfectly

Rio Olympic steeplechaser Vic Mitchell maybe in the veteran class at age 34, but she can still mix it with the best, winning a very quick NSW 3000 metres championships on Saturday night at Homebush. She says her great form over the last couple of years is a result of an injury free run helped by the great environment at Athletics Easts club.
