Ted Simmons OAM receives Sport NSW award

Ted Simmons has worked in sports administration as an official (announcer), referee, journalist and historian for well over 60 years. He has received considerable recognition for his service and another was added to that collection, when last month he received a Sport NSW Distinguished Long Service Award at an event held at NSW Parliament House.

Four more medals for NSW on day six of the World University Games.

The last three days of the 30th World University Games in Naples were busy but successful for NSW athletes. Four athletes claimed relays medals, to add to the silver Alex Diamond’s won in the decathlon on day three of the Games.

History making Street Relays win for Illawong women

It was a day of records on the streets of the Ourimbah campus of the University Newcastle on Saturday where the Athletics NSW Street Relays, incorporating the 70th NSW Road Relays, were held in gusty weather conditions. Illawong Revesby Athletics Club won their first ever women’s open road relay title, while in the men’s race Sydney University won their first title in the race for 14 years and just second in the 70-year history of the race.

Diamond wins silver on day three of the World Uni Games

The 30th World University Games began in Naples last week with athletics commencing on Monday. NSW provided 14 members to a strong Australian team of 51 track and field athletes in the multi-sport competition. At the Games 18 sports are being contested by 5971 athletes from 112 countries. In track and field 1247 athletics are competing for the 50 gold medal events.

Next levels for Klein and Winkcup at Oceania Championships

With Doha World Championships and Tokyo Olympic Games in the focus, many NSW were in brilliant firm at the Oceania Championships in Townsville. There were also two breakthrough performances by Georgia Winkcup and Sara Klein (400m hurdles).
