This weekend’s 2015 NSW junior championships will showcase the state’s strong line up of talented teenagers. The events will include numerous outstanding individuals and many exciting events. It will be an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Australian Championships, achieve world youth qualifiers, record performances to secure Commonwealth Youth Games selection and most of all become NSW State champion for 2015.

From field to track - Annabel McDermott

Annabel McDermott, 15, compiled a tremendous series of performances in last December, running personal bests over 800m, 1500m and 3000m, including a world youth championships qualifier in the later event. But did you know she was formerly a State shot put champion before she was discovered by coach James Fitzgerald who converted her into one of Australia’s leading junior distance runners. This weekend she will tackle the NSW Under-17 1500m and 3000m at the State junior championships at Homebush.

Junior step up in the Hunter

Junior step up in the Hunter

Graduating from juniors to seniors is a challenge for all athletes. But on show at the Hunter Track Classic was a group of teenagers embracing this challenge and showing success. Names like Josh Clarke, Angus Armstrong, Rhys Stein, Kate Spencer, Nick van Gelder, set personal bests or placed in the top-3. Another two 15 and 16 year olds, Jasmine Fountas and Samantha Pearce were also impressive in the field.
