Record entries tackle Sydney Half at Homebush

Fitness and fun were the winners on Sunday at Homebush with record numbers enjoying the 2019 Run NSW Sydney Half. Entries for the popular race soared 200% with over 1200 athletes contesting the Greater Bank 21.1 km half marathon, 7km and 2km events.

The race also combined the 31st Athletics NSW Half Marathon Championships where Belinda Martin (ILL) won her fourth title and recreational club member Matthew Ho from Delta won the men’s title.

Emily Brichacek and NSW women claim national cross country titles

NSW athletes have had a highly successful day at the Cross Country Championship of Australia held in warm weather conditions, with temperatures in the mid-20s at the idyllic Kembla Joggers Cross Country Park in Wollongong on Saturday. Thousands of the best distance runners from around Australia contested the U20 and open championships and schools 10 to 18-year events. NSW athletes were everywhere including on the podium winning the open women’s individual and team events.

Sunday’s Sydney Half on target for 200% increase in entries

 The Sydney Half, part of Greater Bank RunNSW series, which incorporates the 2019 NSW Half Marathon Championships, has seen a massive boost in entries for the 2019 event this Sunday. Entries for the primary 21.1km race have increased from 365 to 900 and expected to reach 1000 when the gun fires at 7.30am on Sunday morning. It is a trend that started in May with the Sydney:10 where entries this year jumped from 900 in 2018 to 1516 this year – a 68% increase.

NSW athletes have podium potential at national cross

With the IAAF World Cross Country championships to be held on Australian soil in 19 months from now, the National Cross Country Championships this Saturday in Wollongong will be a good opportunity to watch senior and junior athletes that are tracking towards wearing the green and gold in Bathurst in March 2021.
