World Championships: Day 3 morning review – Lapierre and Samuels into finals

It was a very hectic morning for Australian athletics with eight athletes in action over just 75 minutes. The lineup included five NSW athletes and there was remarkable performances in this very tough competition. Dani Samuels and Fabrice Lapierre proceeded to the finals of their events, while Anneliese Rubie surprised with progression to the semi-finals. But there was disappoint for Madeleine Heiner who missed the 3000m steeplechase final.

World Championships: Day 1 morning review – tough day for our endurance athletes

This morning in Beijing, the fifteenth IAAF World Championships started with the marathon and events in the famous Bird’s Nest stadium. Interest for NSW were in three middle-distance runners, James Nipperess (SYU), Heidi See (HIL) and Josh Ralph (SYU). All three were making their global championships debut as it was their first World Championships or Olympics. Although they didn’t proceed into the next round, they ran with pride for the national team and we can be confident this is the start of a longer journey for them.
