Most of the
current national champions are set to converge on Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium
this week, where they carry the tag as reigning national champion. However one
who will certainly not be competing, but will still be in the crowd, is triple
Olympian Ron Crawford OAM, who has been reigning champion in
his event for 53 years. Crawford, a triple Olympian, was the last winner of the
national 10,000m track walk title, which has been re-introduced to the 2014
national championships. He won the title 1961 and has held the honour of
reigning champion for over half a century.

McIntyre has won NSW’s first gold medal at the World Masters Indoor Track
and Field Championships in Budapest.
The 2014 Sydney:10 will host the 2014 Australian Road Running
Championships over the 10km distance. The formal announcement was made on
Friday 28th February by Athletics Australia’s Competition Department
(see article here). The Australian
Road Running Championships had previously been hosted by the Launceston 10 for
the last three years and as a part of the Great Australian Run in Melbourne in
