GREGSON BREAKS ANOTHER RECORD

Author: Athletics NSW Administrator/Sunday, 25 November 2007/Categories: News

Kembla Joggers' Ryan Gregson continues to rewrite Australia’s athletics record books, claiming the Australian under 18 5000m record during round 4 of the Kings Track & Field Club Premiership at ES Marks.

Gregson, 17, finished second behind Australian Cross Country Champion Jeff Hunt in a time of 14 minutes 14.35 seconds. He took over five seconds off the previous record set by Victoria’s Mark Thompson in 1996. His performance was also a qualifying performance for next year’s World Junior Championships in Poland.

Gregson now sets his sights on competing at the Australian All Schools Championships in Sydney on 6-9 December, before heading south to Melbourne a week later to contest Australia’s premier distance running meet – Zatopek. Gregson will contest the 1500m against some of Australia’s best milers in an attempt to break the Australian U18 record over that distance.
