Athletics NSW is saddened by the loss of one of its life members, Jean Norman. Jean Norman had a long history with both athletics and hockey. She started with the Randwick Kensington Women's AAC in the 1940's and was later a member of South Sydney Women's AAC. She held a number of positions with the NSW Women's Athletic Association and was a life member of that organisation.
Prior to the amalgamation of the Men's and Women's Associations she joined Randwick-Botany Harriers and has been a member of RBH since the early seventies. After the amalgamation in 1981 she joined the Board of ANSW and was in charge of interclub competition for many years. Jean also managed Australia's first synthetic track, Hensley Athletics Field, for the best part of twenty years. In the early days she took the ground bookings, ran the canteen and looked after the ground equipment.
Her contribution to Athletics will be remembered by those who knew her.
The funeral service for Jean Norman will be held at St. Judes Anglican Church, Avoca St., Randwick on Tuesday 13 January, 2009 commencing at 11am.
