Athletics Australia today announced
that all three upcoming Australian Athletics Tour events and the 2014
Australian Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games Selection Trials will
be broadcast in Australia on Network Ten from this weekend.
All four athletics meets will be
shown as one-hour highlights packages and will receive their first run on TEN,
the home of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The meets will then be
replayed on both ONE and Fox Sports.
Athletics Australia Chief Executive
Officer Dallas O’Brien said teaming with Network Ten as host
broadcasters of the 2014 Commonwealth Games was a positive move for the sport.
“With the Glasgow Commonwealth Games
broadcast on TEN later this year, it makes absolute sense to have our premiere
domestic competition, the Australian Athletics Tour, and our national titles
also broadcast on TEN,” O’Brien said.

Through its ‘Go Glasgow’ program, the Australian
Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) is distributing $8 million of its own
funds to support athlete preparation in the 18 Games programs sports in
addition to meeting the full costs (approximately $7 million) of sending the
Team to compete in Glasgow (SCO) at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Australian athletics is a major beneficiary of the ‘Go
