Seven NSW athletes start World U20 Championships campaign

This afternoon the World U20 Championships commence in the Finnish city of Tampere. Seven NSW athletes will be in action at the meet which runs for six days. The championships are the pinnacle for junior athletes, with 160 countries entered to compete for international honours.

Training partners Alexander Kolesnikoff and Aiden Harvey are the shot putters on the team and will be pushing towards the 20 metres mark.

Carley Thomas is a strong chance to continue Australia’s good recent success in the women’s 800m at these championships.

It was pleased to see former world junior star, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, who in recent years moved into the coaching ranks, placing an athlete on the team. Gainsford-Taylor who competed at the 1990 world juniors, coaches relay team member Kristie Edwards.
