The 2016 will be the 7th consecutive Hunter Track Classic, hosted by ANSW. It is the only meet in this series to take place in regional Australia with typically over 300 athletes involved including Commonwealth, Olympic and Paralympic representative.
The Hunter Track Classic again strive to be innovate and exciting by putting the athletes first.
The final event list is below. Events include Athletics Australia and Athletics NSW events for elite athletes as well as a kids sprint and community 3k event.
How do Athletes Nominate
Nominations will be open in early December. There is no charge to nominate. Athletics Australia will host nominations for both the Athletics Australia grid events and the Athletics NSW additional events.
Athletics NSW has a limited number of support packages available for the 2016 Hunter Track Classic. Support is being offered in one of two ways;
1. Travel and Accommodation Support: This package is for those high ranking athletes that fall outside the Athletics Australia travel funding system. Flights will be reimbursed from an interstate capital or fuel reimbursement along with twin share accommodation for the athletes only (ie: excludes partners or coaches). We have a limited budget for this level of support and will prioritise expressions of interest on performances in the last 12 months. We ask that potential athletes apply for this support as soon as possible.
2. Accommodation Support: Twin share accommodation for one or two nights at the Ibis Newcastle which is located in Newcastle West. This includes ground transport to and from the hotel to the event and to and from Newcastle Airport. This package is to provide support for interstate athletes who book their own flights to and from Newcastle.
3. Ground Transport Support: The Ibis Newcastle is the event hotel and is located on Hunter Street in Newcastle West. There are several other hotels in this precinct. Athletes and coaches are welcome to request ground transport to and from the Ibis Newcastle to the event, a large bus has been booked for this purpose as the Hunter Sports Centre is around 25minutes drive from the hotel. In addition Athletics NSW will be operating a mini bus shuttle to and from Newcastle Airport to the Ibis Newcastle.

Getting to Newcastle and the Hunter Sports Centre
All three major airlines fly into Newcastle Airport located 20 minutes drive from the city. Direct cost effective flights arrive from Melbourne, Gold Coast and Brisbane and smaller planes fly from Canberra and Sydney. We discourage athletes from flying to Sydney and utilising public transport to Newcastle as it is a 3hr train journey.
Trains are from Sydney Central every half hour or hour depending on the time of the day. The terminating station closest to the Ibis Hamilton then free buses run past the Ibis along Hunter St, the station closest to the Hunter Sports Centre is Cardiff.
