Bankstown and ANSW, as part of their ongoing commitment to providing athletes with the competition opportunities they require to best enhance their performances, are looking to host one to two distance-focussed competitions during the winter season to provide athletes with perfect conditions to chase PBs and qualification standards for major international events.
This is the first of potentially two such events and their ongoing viability will be directly determined by the level of interest and support they attract in 2019.
A number of details will be confirmed closer to the date, such as the exact timetable, however the intention is to ensure that races are held in as suitable conditions as possible to be conducive to optimum results. The events will also feature as many pacemakers as possible and will have full IAAF permit status - meaning that performances will count towards international qualification.
The first event will feature at least the following events:
- Men's 10,000m
- Men's 5,000m
- Women's 5,000m
- Women's Steeplechase
There is also scope to add a men's steeplechase depending on the levels of interest expressed.
Much like the Sydney Milers Club series, these events are being put on by BSAC and ANSW with the intention of providing athletes with the best possible racing conditions in which to record their best performances. If athletes and their coaches support the events - we'll keep putting them on.
