The NSW Relay Championships is the largest and most successful relay event in Australia. The competition is held over two days and hosts over 700 teams from NSW clubs.

Eligibility:

Athletes must be registered with an Athletics NSW affiliated club for the 2016/17 season. If you are not currently registered with a club you can register online here.

Uniform:

Registered Athletics NSW club members must wear their correct club uniform. Athletes must have their Athletics NSW 2016-17 registration numbers attached on the front and back (except in pole vault and high jump events).

Age Groups:

The NSW Relay Championships is conducted in the Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, Under 20, Open and Masters age categories. With the exception of Masters, see rule 1.3, all age groups are determined by age of the athlete on the 31st December 2016.

Masters ages are determined as at the first day of competition.  All team members must be over 30 years as at 6th November 2016. For the purpose of Relay Championships, Masters ages are determined by adding together the ages of each team member in whole years. Masters track events consist of the following: Men – 120+ years, 160+ years, 200+ years and 240+ years. Women – 120+ years, 160+ years and 200+ years.  Masters field events include Masters Shot Put and Javelin Throw only. Athletes’ names and running order do not need to be provided.

For the 4 x 1500m and 4 x 1500m walk relays, please note the following procedure:

  • Each club must appoint a suitable lap scorer for the team.
  • The appointed lap scorer should report to the Chief Umpire 15 minute prior to the start of the event to receive the team’s lap scoring sheet and any particular instructions relating to the lap scoring process.

Once checked in, the first and last runner must report to the start area (track events) at least 10 minutes before the event is scheduled to start. All other runners are to go directly to their change point. Athletes in field events must report to the field event site at least 20 minutes before to allow for warm ups to be completed.
