Sydney Half: A race for everyone!
Sydney Half is part of Athletics NSW expanding RunNSW series and will also incorporate the NSW Half Marathon Championships. The event will also feature a 7km Fun Run and a kids 2km event to ensure there is something for everyone. Athletics NSW medals will be on the line for Open and Master’s categories in the half for registered members. All races are open to members AND the general running public.

Sydney Half Event Timetable

6:00am – Athlete check in opens

7:25am – Wheelchair Athletics NSW Sydney Half

7:30am – Athletics NSW Sydney Half
7:30am – Greater 7km Fun Run
9:15am – Little Athletics NSW 2.5km Fun Run

 

We’ve allowed enough time between races for participants to cheer on their children, families and friends participating in the other races. Be sure to invite your friends and family to come down and support you in your run. Runners are to assemble on the start line 10 minutes before the start time.

Entry is online only. Click here to enter. You will be taken to a secure online registration system where you can enter the race and purchase and event t -shirt and also some Sydney Half training sessions with RunCrew.

    Please note the following entries fees below. Entry Fees include Member Fee (Member of an affiliated Athletics NSW club) or Non Member Fee (general public). Early entries close 5:00pm Friday 7 August. Late entries close 9.00am Thursday 20th August.

Early check in:
We will be providing an early check in option on Saturday 22nd August between 11.00am and 5:00pm at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre (TBC) . The check in desk will be in front of the main turnstiles off Dawn Frazer Ave under a Greater Building Society tent.

Participants not able to check in on the Saturday, can collect their timing tag (ands race bib for non ANSW members) on race day at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre from 6:00am.

Race day check in:

All athletes that have not purchased an Athletics NSW MyTAG must report to the registration desk on the day of competition at least 45 minutes before the race to confirm entry and collect a temporary timing tag. Athletes with a MyTAG can report directly to the start area at race start time. Athletes who do not have the correct timing tag will not be given a place or time.

ANSW members are required to wear their correct club uniform and 2014/2015 season registration numbers front and back.

What happens at the Start?
The start line will be outside SOPAC on Dawn Frazer Ave for all races. Runners need to report to the start line 10 minutes before their race. There will be NO SEEDING groups on the start line so we ask that all runners use common sense to SELF SEED themselves. This means faster runners start at the front, moderate runners in the middle and slower runners/walkers at the back. Any prams should also start at the back. There will be a few brief words and a nice little gee up before we send you on your way.

Where are the toilets?
There are three toilet stops along the course:
– Cathy Freeman park at the 500m/6.2km mark of each loop
– The Brick Pit located at the far turn around point. (2.8km point of each loop)
– Adjacent to the start line on the ANZ stadium side of Dawn Fraser Ave (0km or 7km point of each loop)

Where are the drink stations?
– Brick Pit Roadside 2.8km, 9.8km, 16.8km (water only)
– Cathy Freeman Park Roadside km and 6.2km, 13.2km, 20.2km (water and electolye)
– Finish line (water and electrolyte)

Finish Line
The finish line will be the finish line will be along Dawn Frazer Ave in proximity to the start line and recognisable by the RunNSW finish arch. A recovery area will be set up after the finish line for runners to recovery with water and electrolyte and remove their timing chips. After exiting the recovery zone runners can meet their friends and family on the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre or ANZ stadium surrounds as they overlook the course. There will be first aid and sports trainers at the finish line as well as a range of food and drink outlets.

Where can I warm up?
The event precinct with be along Dawn Frazer Ave outside Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Friends and family can view runners passing the start finish point three time. Runners can warm up on the course from 6:00am as it will be closed to traffic. Toilet facilities will be located adjacent to the start/finish of SOPAC, outside the stadium or on parts of the course. The track itself will NOT be available for warm ups.

Can my club set up a tent?
Yes! Clubs are invited to set up their club tents along Dawn Frazer Avenue overlooking the course. Tents will need to be weighted down rather than pegged and only 3m x 3m tents be used. Please email scott.westcott@nswathletics.org.au to book a position for your tent.

Is there a baggage area?
Yes. A secure baggage area will be provided next to the recovery area. Runners who leave their bags inside the baggage area will write their name and bib number on the front and leave their bag with an attendant. Do NOT leave valuables in bags left in the baggage area. This is a service to runners but Athletics NSW cannot guarantee security of items left.

What Presentations will be held on the day?
Medal presentations will happen as per timetable below:
8:45am: Open Half Marathon Male and Female winners
9:30am: Masters Half Marathon Male and Female
9:45am: Greater 7km Fun Run winners
9:50am: 2km winners

No team medals will be presented on the day.

What are the prizes and prize categories?
Half Marathon Prize Money
Outright winners will be awarded prize money in the 21.1km
1st – $250
2nd – $150
3rd – $100

Athletics NSW Medals for the Half Marathon
These will be awarded to the top three ELIGIBLE runners in each age category of the Half Marathon event. Note: Team results and points will be awarded to ANSW Club runners who participate in the Half Marathon only. The 7km and kids 2km are supporting events and are not part of the Athletics NSW Winter Championship.

RunNSW Medals for the Greater 7km
RunNSW medals shall be awarded for place getters in the Greater 7km.
Top three Open Male and Open Female
Top three U/16 male and U/16 female

RunNSW Medals for the Kids 2km
RunNSW medals shall be awarded for place getters in the kids 2km.
Top three U/14 Male and U/14 Female
Top three U/12 Male and U/12 Female

Lucky Draw prizes
Lucky draw prizes shall be on offer at the presentation.
More information shall be forthcoming about lucky draw prizes.
