Hunter Track Classic

The Hunter Track Classic is one of the most exciting and innovative track and field meets on the calendar. The event part of the Athletics Australia national series and is highly regarded amongst athletes as one of the most enjoyable meets of the year.

Championship Events

The Athletics NSW Championship events are provided for junior, open, and masters aged athletes. They come in a number of formats including track and field, relays, and combined events. Athletics NSW has a proud history of state champions which have progressed through to national and international level competition.

Treloar Shield

Held over a series of rounds starting in mid october, the competition is a way for all athletes to get involved in an organised competition. Athletes score points for their respective clubs which tally towards both the age group pennants and the overall Club Premiership trophy.

All-Comers

Allcomers competitions are open to all Athletics NSW registered athletes. The competition is graded allowing athletes of similar ability and standard to compete against one another. Runners are seeded in races based on previous performances. 

Permit Meets

An Athletics NSW permit meet is an athletics competition run by a NSW club that has been awarded permit status by Athletics NSW. These meets are conducted under IAAF rules, and allow athletes to qualify for National Championships and be eligible for rankings. Athletes cannot however, break records or post International Qualifiers. Many of the competitions will have a specific focus, for instance, a throws only meet for the Throwers Club, or a verticals jumps meet at Campbelltown.

Winter Running Series

Throughout Winter, Athletics NSW provides out of stadia running events including cross country, road races, and relays. These championship races for all age groups are held between March and November and are held with the cooperation of host clubs and provided for athletes of all levels. Individual runners contest for the accolade of Distance Runner of the Year and compete for points at each of the Winter Championship running races.

Race Walking Series

There are three walking championships in the Winter season, the NSW Team Walks Championships, NSW Short Walks Championships, and NSW Long Walks Championships. Each of these events are hosted by Athletics NSW in conjunction with either the NSW Race Walking Club or the Regal Race Walkers. Individual walkers contest for the accolade of Distance Walker of the Year and compete for points at each of the three walks championships.

Winter Club Premiership and Club Trophy

Throughout Winter athletes earn points for their clubs toward both the Winter Club Premiership and Winter Club Trophy. For the Club Premiership, points are awarded to teams in junior, open, and masters age divisions for all NSW Winter Championship events (except long and short walks). The Winter Club Trophy points are a cumulative total of points obtained across the age divisions in the Winter Club Premiership plus additional points for total participants in each event per club.

Host Clubs

Athletics NSW Winter Championships are conducted by ‘host’ clubs who provide most of the logistical and operational preparation for the event, while working closely with Athletics NSW to ensure a successful event. A tender process occurs, and clubs are awarded the right to conduct the Championship for three years. Athletics NSW will call for expressions of interest for 2018-2020 in due course.
