The Australian Sports Commission’s ‘Sporting Schools’ program, offers students in primary schools access to sport based activities before, during or after school. Athletics Australia delivers the IAAF Nestlé Healthy Active Kids’ Athletics through the Sporting Schools program which allows children to explore and develop the fundamental skills of running, jumping and throwing.
Athletics Australia is currently seeking coaches to become accredited to assist in delivering the program around the country.
Coaches will teach children the core fundamentals of athletics - running, jumping and throwing - using modified equipment with a focus on fun and following the IAAF’s successful global framework. All coaches will be paid for their involvement.
To be accredited to coach as part of the Sporting Schools athletics program, you need to be:
· An athletics coach with a current accreditation from Athletics Australia*, OR;
· An AASC CTP accredited coach**, OR;
· A registered teacher**.
If you are one of the three above categories, all you need to do is to complete a four-hour upskilling course run by Athletics Australia and have a current Working with Children Check for your state or territory. See course calendar here
If you have already undertaken the upskilling course please register as a coach with Sporting Schools.
With Sporting Schools to be available soon in hundreds of primary school around the country, it’s expected that there will be a wide variety of opportunities for coaches around Australia to enjoy teaching kids the basics of athletics and be paid for it; so get yourself accredited now!
