Andrew Byrne is one of our NSW’s coaches helping deliver athletics to a different group of school children. He is one of our valued coaches in the Australian Sports Commission funded Sporting Schools Program. In this article he provides an understanding of this program and recalls a couple of rewarding moments for him as a coach which highlight the power of sport on wellbeing and confidence. Brad Woods - pathway to full-time coaching at Trinity

Here is an interesting coaching pathway. Ten years ago, Brad Woods fell into coaching, now he is working full-time at Trinity Grammar, one of the most successful athletics sports programs in Australia, and also coaching across other sports and their elite and development programs. In this interview, Brad talks about the challengers of coaching in the short school year. He also tells us about how he remained patient as coach, while an athlete played three other sports, but eventually returned a successful athletics career.

Wesfields Sports High’s Coach Mathison

Former endurance athlete Brett Mathison transitioned into coaching about 10 years ago, and in the last few years started teaching and coaching at the very successful youth development program at Westfields Sports High. Mathison now coaches over 20 athletes, primarily middle-distance, but also in walks and even 400m hurdles. In this interview, he talks about different commitment levels between athletes; and notes the different reasons athletes do athletics.

November Chairman's Message

A lot has been happening since my last communication a few weeks ago. 

On Track and Field there have been many highlights:

The State Relays were the best I have to for a long time.  The friendly rivalry, the atmosphere, the performances, and the commitment (not the least being Jay Stone hiring a bus and driver, to drive his team of 40 from Armidale and booking accommodation next to Silverwater Gaol...).
