NSW athletes impress at Melanesian Championships

Twenty NSW athletes travelled as members of the Australian team to the Oceania Melanesian Regional Championships in Port Vila, Vanuatu last week. The championships included competition in the open and under-18 ages, but the younger age division had added significance being part of the selection process for the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in October 2018.

AMA Nationals Perth 2018

NSW masters athletes set 24 new records at the recent AMA National Championships held in Perth, from 26th-29th April 2018, in excellent conditions. These were headlined by Heather Lee (W90) breaking two world records in the 5000m track walk and the 10km road walk. Another of the walkers, NSWMA life member Jim Seymon (M80), set an Australian record in the 1500m walk. More Australian records were set in the hurdles and sprints by Ryan Dowling (M35) 110m hurdles, Sally Stagles (W55) 80m hurdles, Trevor Young (M60) 400m and Osmo Millridge (M85) 200m hurdles.

With one kilometre to go, four athletes were duelling for the lead in the closest 2XU Sydney 10 in history. Perfect weather conditions had greeted the thousand plus athletes who competed in the three events over 10km, 5km and 2.5km distances.
