Event Overview

More than 3,500 track and field athletes of all ages will compete in the 2019 Australian Athletics Championships, with the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre set to host the combined Junior and Open aged championships for able-bodied and para-athletes from 30th March to 7th April 2019.

Set to span an impressive eight days, the 2019 Australian Athletics Championships will be the largest annual athletics event in Australia and the Oceania-Pacific region in terms of sporting endeavour, participation, whole-of-sport engagement and celebration.

Combined Event Championships (U15-U18) will be held in Penguin, Tasmania on the 15th-17th March. Entries directly through Athletics Australia. Under 20 and Open Combined Event Championships will be held with the 2019 Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney, 30th March - 7th April. 

Eiligibility to represent nsw

All athletes wishing to represent NSW at the 2019 Australian Athletics Championships must:

  • Be a minimum of 12 years of age as at 31 December 2019
  • Be a registered and financial member of Athletics NSW at the time of competition
  • Compete in the 2019 NSW Junior Athletics Championships (22nd -24th February) / NSW Open Athletics Championships (8th - 10th March)**
  • Compete in at least one other ANSW event during the 2018/19 summer season**

**Athletes who live further than 200km from Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre or who have extenuating circumstances can apply to Athletics NSW for an exemption.

To qualify to compete for NSW in the Australian Athletics Championships, athletes must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:

Place First, Second or Third at:

  • NSW All Schools Athletics Championships (27th - 30th September 2018)**
  • NSW Junior Athletics Championships (22nd - 24th February 2019)
  • NSW Open Athletics Championships (8th - 10th March 2019)

Achieve the 2018/19 Athletics Australia National Entry Standard for the relevant age group and event. Entry Standards must be achieved at a National Permitted Event. NSW events that hold a National Permit include:

  • NSW All Schools Athletics Championships
  • NSW Junior Athletics Championships
  • NSW Open Athletics Championships
  • Australian All Schools Athletics Championships
  • Any event on the ANSW Calendar 
  • 2018 GPS Athletics Championship

**Due to the year change, athletes will compete 'up' in the next age division. I.e. If athletes qualified in the 15 years age group (U16), they will compete in the U17 age group at the Australian Junior Championships.
