Team Selection Information

Athletics NSW will again send a full team to compete at this years Australian All Schools Championships. The team will be selected solely from performances at the NSW All Schools Championships, Thursday 26th - Sunday 29th September 2019. Due to the limited number of places available in this team, no exemptions will be granted regardless of illness, injury or misadventure. 

In 2019, a full team will consist of the following:

Under 14  2 x Male 2 x Female 
Under 16  4 x Male  4 x Female 
Under 18  4 x Male  4 x Female 
Under 16 Para Ambulant  2 x Male  2 x Female 
Under 16 Para Wheelchair  2 x Male  2 x Female 
Under 18 Para Ambulant  2 x Male  2 x Female 
Under 18 Para Wheelchair 2 x Male 2 x Female 

All athletes wishing to be selected for the NSW team MUST compete at the NSW all schools championships.

Team management

Athletics NSW will send a team of approximately 16 team staff, including 12 team managers and 4 team physiotherapists to the championships to look after the NSW athletes. Team managers should be motivated, enthusiastic and will ideally have experience working with junior athletes. If you would like some more information about being a NSW team manager, please contact 

All team managers will be required to have the following:

  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates 
  • Current Working With Children Clearance letter for voluntary work
  • Completed level 1 and 2 ASADA e-learning modules
  • Completed 'Play By The Rules' Child Protection, Harassment & Discrimination Modules

Team Information

The 2019 Australian All Schools will once again be a team event. All NSW athletes will travel to Perth with the team on the morning of Thursday 5th December and will remain with the team until they arrive back in Sydney on the Sunday evening/Monday morning. Athletics NSW will be taking a team of 17 experienced team staff including four physiotherapists, to make this an exciting and enjoyable trip for all athletes. 

Athletes who qualify as part of the NSW team will be able to collect a detailed team information pack from the Australian All Schools Information Centre during the NSW All Schools Championships. In short, the key details for this team are as follows:

Travel Dates:
Thursday 5th (am) - Sunday 8th (pm) December 2019

Team Levy & Associated Fees:
There will be a compulsory team levy TBC per athlete. This levy includes the following:

  • Return Flights
  • Three nights accommodation
  • All meals
  • Snacks and refreshments throughout the day
  • All ground transfers
  • Access to physiotherapy throughout the championships
  • Access to recovery options throughout the championships
  • Team management

All athletes will also be required to pay an Athletics Australia event entry fee of of $30.00 per event. 

Team Uniform:
At the Australian All Schools Championships, athletes will compete for their state, therefore all NSW athletes will be required to compete in the current 2XU branded ANSW uniform. Uniforms will be available to try on and purchase during the NSW All schools championships. Note: Uniform is not included in the team levy


Age Clarification & Notes on Selection

Please note that the following age qualification guidelines will be applied to athletes who are selected in the NSW team:

Under 14 Athletes must not have their fourteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2019
(i.e. must be born in 2006 or 2007) 
Under 16
Athletes must not have their sixteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2019
(i.e. must be born in 2004 or later)
Under 18
Athletes must not have their eighteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2019
(i.e. must be born in 2002 or later)

Please note the following additional criteria relating to state team qualification:

  • Athletes must turn 12 in the year of competition in order to compete in these championships
  • Athletes must be turning 14 in the year of competition to compete in the 2000m Steeplechase
  • Athletes may enter the same event in more than one age group, providing they are age eligible. There is not a maximum number of events an athlete can enter.
  • Athletes may compete in any relay event provided they are age eligible as at 31 December 2019.
