Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre is set to host the inaugural Australian Junior Athletics Championships Championships for able-bodied and para-athletes from 14 - 18 March, 2018.

Australia's 'next generation' or track and field talent will be on full display in Sydney as more than 2000 junior athletes descend to compete at the famous Sydney Olympic Park Athletics track. 

eligibility criteria

To be eligible for selection in the NSW team to compete at the Australian All Schools Championships, athletes must be:

  • A minimum of 12 years old (as of 31 December 2018)
  • A maximum of 19 years old (as of 31 December 2018)
  • A registered member with Athletics NSW
  • Compete at the 2018 New South Wales Junior Athletics Championships

To qualify to compete at the 2018 Australian Junior Athletics Championships, athletes must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:

  • Place first, second of third in:
    -  2017 New South Wales All Schools Championships 
    -  2018 New South Wales Junior Athletics Championships  
  • Place first in:
    - New South Wales Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) Athletics Championships (12 years age group only)
  • Any athlete that achieves the entry standard is eligible for selection pending nomination

The qualification period commenced on 1 January 2017, and concludes 12th February 2018.


All athletes are asked to carefully read the above ENTRY STANDARDS and IMPORTANT NOTES on selection prior to nominating. 


If you believe you have qualified for the 2018 Australian Athletics Championships, we encourage you to nominate for the New South Wales team. 

There is no cost to nominate, and it will only take you a few minutes. Nominations close 9:00am Monday 12th February (day after NSW Junior Championships).

Athletics NSW will notify athletes of their successful nomination on a weekly basis, commencing the week of 08 January 2018. A team list will be updated on this page weekly. If you have received notification that your nomination has been successful but your name does not appear on the team list, you will need to contact the ANSW office. 

A final list of successful nominees will be published here on Tuesday 13th February 2018, following the close of nominations. 

Please be advised that athletes will not have their position on the New South Wales team officially confirmed until they have met the eligibility criteria, and team registration and payment has been completed.

Please note that if you nominated for multiple events, but not all of those events are listed on the approved nomination list next to your name, you may only register for the events that have been approved. Any events missing indicates that you have not met the eligibility criteria for those events, or you did not provide sufficient evidence of how you had achieved the qualification standard. Athletes who's nominations are approved for the NSW team to compete at the 2018 Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Sydney will need to complete their online registration and pay the team levy. All approved nominations will be posted on the Athletics NSW webpage under the 'Teams' tab on Monday 12th February 2018, and will be sent a link to complete registration via email. Only athletes who appear on the approved nominees list may register. 

The cut off for registrations is 5:00pm, Friday 16th February 2018. No late entries will be accepted. 

Athletes are not confirmed members of the team until they have completed their registration. 

The team levy for this event includes the following:

  • Team administration costs
  • Team management services - Athletics NSW will be providing an experienced team of managers to assist athletes throughout the championships
  • Access to three physiotherapists throughout the championships



All athletes competing at the 2018 Australian Junior Championships will be required to wear the current Athletics NSW state team uniform. The current uniform is the 2XU branded gear, please see below link for reference. Compulsory uniform items include the following:


  • Competition singlet
  • Run shorts or Tri-Shorts


  • Competition singlet or Crop Top
  • Briefs, Hipster Shorts or Tri-Shorts

All other uniform items are optional for this event. Sizes run from 2XS - 4XL in most items. Please note we do not currently have any backpacks available. 

Uniforms for the Australian Junior Championships will be available to try on and purchase during the NSW Junior Championships, 09-11 February 2018, VIP Room 1, Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. All athletes who require a uniform are encouraged to purchase items during the NSW championships. Any orders placed after this time will incur additional postage and handling fees.

Athletics NSW will be entering teams into the following relays at the 2018 Australian Junior Championships:

Under 14 Women: 4 x 100 Metres
Under 14 Men: 4 x 100 Metres
Under 16 Women: 4 x 100 Metres
Under 16 Women: 4 x 200 Metres
Under 16 Men: 4 x 100 Metres
Under 16 Men: 4 x 200 Metres
Under 18 Women: 4 x 100 Metres
Under 18 Women: 4 x 400 Metres
Under 18 Men: 4 x 100 Metres
Under 18 Men: 4 x 400 Metres
Under 20 Women: 4 x 100 Metres
Under 20 Women: 4 x 400 Metres
Under 20 Men: 4 x 100 Metres
Under 20 Men: 4 x 400 Metres

Athletes will be selected into the above teams based on the below selection policy. Athletes will be contacted via email by the state team manager on or before Friday 02 March.
